The sweeping is designed to reduce the amount of curl and make the rock travel not only a straighter path, but further; by creating a thin layer of water in front of the rock.

Sure, any competitive activity a schlub with a couple of muscles can play is a "sport." But great, strategic, arts of competition with a great history, such as the greatest of all-chess are GAMES. Sports, football and basketball, are merely hoopla and spectacles compared to our great games, like chess, Go and many others. So yeah, maybe curling is a "game." Better and smarter than any "sport" in my opinion. And sports look more to me like a joke.

unless you have curled, or watched it, or take any intrest in it you will think its boring and stupid and the most easy thing ever...once you go out and play and really understand the game you realize how difficult it is mentaly and physically.
