Sinead O'Connor & the Chieftains- The Foggy Dew

As down the glen one Easter mornTo a city fair rode I,Their armed lines of marching menIn squadrons passed me by.No pipe did hum, no battle drumDid sound its loud tattooBut the Angelus' bells o'er the Liffey swellsRang out in the foggy dew.Right proudly high in Dublin townHung they out a flag of war.'Twas better to die 'neath an Irish skyThan at Suvla or Sud el Bar.And from the plains of Royal MeathStrong men came hurrying through; While Brittania's Huns with their long-range gunsSailed in through the foggy dew.The bravest fell, and the requiem bellRang mournfully and clearFor those who died that Easter-tideIn the springing of the year. While the world did gaze with deep amazeAt those fearless men but fewWho bore the fight that freedom's lightMight shine through the foggy dew.And back through the glen I rode againAnd my heart with grief was soreFor I parted then with valiant menWhom I never shall see moreBut to and froIn my dreams I goAnd I kneel and pray for youFor slavery fledOh, glorious deadWhen you fell in the foggy dew

3Elvis there is not much love lost between the English and irish ,and 900 years of History takes a long time to heal.Personally I have never met anyone irish who I disliked, although I have visited Ireland only once.

I´m sorry, but you are wrong here.

The CD is called "Chieftains - The long black veil" and was made in 1995. It contains 13 songs and the Chieftains are there with Sting, Mick Jagger, Sinead O´Connor, Van Morrisson, Mark Knopfler, Ry Cooder, Marianne Faithfull and Tom Jones. They do "The Rocky Road to Dublin" with the Rolling Stones! This rehearsal of "The Foggy Dew" is better, though, than the recorded version on the CD.
