A shame they have removed the tail of the 727. Hope they still have it stored so it can be re-attached later. These aircraft were worthy successors to the previous transports, and I'd like to think NZ7272 will be preserved for display. Civil aviation history, espcially when it coimes to gen-one jetliners, despite their qantum leap forward are left poor relation to all other key aircraft represented in preservation. Granted, they are big and expensive, but a key part of aviation heritage.

Awesome handling and a/c control there too, but as said easily withn the a/c limits, esp when light. ejvids keep up the good work matekiwipilot.

Negative.The RNZAF purchased 3 727's. The third unit was immediately flown to Woodbourne where it was broken down for spares. It only flew 21 hours in RNZAF service.Of the other two that were put into service, one went to Woodbourne where it's engines and tail were removed and is used as a training aid. The other was re-registered as 3D-KMJ and left NZ in 2004 for Swaziland. Come on guys, Google the info - it's all out there to be found.

only have 2 757's? i thought the airforce had about 4 or so? i remember when i first moved here i think the rnzaf still had 727's were they scrapped or sent off to another operator somewhere? :)

Sadly both aircraft were in the USA in zillions of bits at the time. The first one is now back and is certified operational again. Auckland's turn for an Airshow March next year.
