im all for helping people in need. But most charity money should go to helping animals I personally believe. Animals have qualities that no human on earth could ever match. They only become what their owners make them. They ask for nothing but food and love in return. They dont get mad at you. They dont lie to you. They do as theyre told and dont ask for much in return. If your going to give to a charity this year, help out some animals that are in as bad as a crisis as this, but they cant ask.

by the way, that's in ADDITION to registering to a charity

I don't want to promote bias when asking this question but I was told that by teaching English you'd be helping these people. When I've finished uni and got a career I want to help people around the world -- the thing is, I'm not too keen on medicine and would prefer to do English instead. I used to want to volunteer as a doctor but would volunteering as an English teacher do any good or would that be stupid?Anyone have any ideas?

it's very true that capitalism is the most successful answer to poverty. the only problem with that route is that it takes a very long time. we must focus on the market and free trade for long term results, but also send money and education resources to those in trouble now. the children of today are just as important as those of tomorrow.

The problem with this generic view is that you assume that the leaders of these countries care about educating their people. Sending money doesn't fix the problem...it only prolongs it...just like bailing out failing businesses. The answer is Capitalism...provide incentives for businesses to manufacture in these regions...eliminate barriers to trade...education will follow the market...look around the World...India, VietNam, Korea, Singapore...it is working.

It breaks my heart to know that this is going on all over the world. And yet there are so many of us, including myself that goes to church and claims to live life by God but we don't do anything to help. I feel ashamed.

destiny?where someone is born SHOULD NOT determine whether they live or they die. You're saying that to keep the population down, we should let the underprivledged and defenseless die?How about we let the selfish and the heartless die? I think that'd lower the population numbers a few notches.

That's not all true. For just a fraction on the USA's military budget, every child in the world could be guarenteed a chance for education. Through education, we can end poverty. |
