To me, it makes more sense to say REM are a blend of XTC and Joy Division, though they are not so good as XTC.

But, I do not like hair metal except for a couple of bands (Queensryche, Dokken and Kix).There are a couple of bands today that I'll listen to (Velvet Revolver, Queens Of The Stone Age, Modest Mouse and Franz Ferdinand). Other than that, music today sucks.

XTC is a great band.Now, a couple of things to say. I agree that Avenged Sevenfold is a shitty band and find it funny how they call themselves heavy metal. Also love how the kids today think they know rock by listening to stuff like My Chemical Romance. You REALLY have to feel bad about kids today listening to bands that are killing rock.Me, I grew up in the 90's when bands like Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden were all over the radio. And I listen to the stuff that came before too.
