i think the only difference between them is that the a5 is a neck-thru piece.it has a great slap and pop sound, mainly because i have a primus-cover band here in brazil, and i play their songs with this bass. it also has a great variety of sounds.hope i've answered!sorry about the bad english!

does it sound good when you slap and pop because when you slap and pop with a precision bass it does not sound that good

Sounds different for a reason, it's a different instrument (big shock, I know). As for the strings, they sound rather new and twangy, which means they would need breaking in, not changing, for a mellower sound, unless the twang is the point, in which case, there's no reason to change the strings anyway.

My middle finger was broken when i recorded this. I banged it into a doorjam when I was moving that ridiculous Traynor cabinet into my room. I agree this bass is not right for pick or slap, both styles I don't use. The spacing is 16mm which would make either of those very difficult. The bass is solid maple, I can't comment on the wood quality as I don't know how to determine that. The neck was stable, though.

Cort and every sub-Cort brand (including the venerable Lakland Skyline series, made by the same people in the same factory) are the best of the overseas basses. I agree it sounds nothing like a muddy awkward precision or a honky jazz. It's got depth and clarity, two things Fender never got right, but Rickenbacker has been managing to do since the 60s.

Sorry bout the late reply! Those are Allparts knobs, I bought them for my Geddy Lee bass but they wouldn't fit, that's why there's only 2.
