This is a performance for the ages. In amongst all the notes she finds interesting colors and voicings. Also, the couple of botched passages don't seem to affect her. No overcompensating. She just goes on with her interpretation.

That may not be Chopin, but that's Martha Argerich, the true understanding of what interpreting is.

could you imagine she quit piano one year and she hardly convinced by Stefan Ashkenase's wife to play again and after that she won the Chopin Competition

Even though there are wrong notes, this performance has such an incredible energy and excitement, and the style elements are so perfect yet so interesting, that I can easily see why she won. This is a mesmerizing performance. |
