FYI.....the only reason that Gypsy will be closing in March of 09 is that Patti LuPone's contract is ending and rather than replace her they are ending the run. I have seen all incarnations of this production (Ravinia, City Center and now B'way several times) and each time Patti has received standing ovations after Rose's turn which is something I have never seen before (and I have seen Tyne Daly, Betty Buckley and Bernadette Peters).

Okay, for starters Bernadette Peters production of Gypsy was NOT a commercial or critical flop! Bernadette's production ran 1 year and I month, Patti's will run a little under a year. If Patti's was more successful, it would not be closing a month sooner than Bern's did. Plus, Bern got rave reviews from USA Today, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Playbill, the list goes on and on. She got a standing ovation at the Tonys just like Patti did AND her Gypsy cast recording won a Grammy.

Jack McFarland once shouted, 'Shut up Patti LuPone! Shut your brassy magnificent trap!' on Will & Grace. Now I know what he meant. Patti is just perfect!

Her acting and singing so genuine, she becomes the character rather than portray the character.I love how she looks like she's having a nervous breakdown towards the end of the scene!

I know right?! I have seen her as Mrs Lovett in Sweeney with Michael Cerveris in 2005. I love her voice!!
