Yeah, I'm positive too, this IS Gillan

That seems odd, because I am 100% certain that this is Ian Gillan singing. I have to think that your album has given credit to the wrong person, and that yours is the Ted Neeley version. Your remastered version must be of the film version: not the original concept album from which this was taken. As for the voices, I don't know how you could be getting them mixed up.

RJMincey,Sorry, I wanted to reply you and mistakenly I marked your comment as a spam, sorry for this. What about this video - Are you sure that Gillan sings here?I have original JCS album remastered edition realased in 1998, and I know Gillan things there...This 1998 remastered version and 1973 film version are the same. But, listen to film version, It's Ian Gillan indeed. I'm a huge fan of Gillan, so I really identify his voice from 1000000 voices.

The singer in this particular YouTube video is indeed Ian Gillan, as igsoper says. Ted Neeley sang the song for the film soundtrack which came out two years later (or thereabouts). What you hear on this page IS the original recording.Jeff Mincey

What is wrong with you people. Regardless of who you like better, Gillan sang on the concept album. Neeley sang in the film version. And Please don't talk about tone and timber. This is a screeching rock opera for goodness sake.

Wait, who sing on this video????????????It's not Ian Gillan... I bet It's not Gillan on this video. I have 1970 album and Gillan sings far more differently there. 1970 album version and 1973 film version of Gethsemane are absolutely the same... But who sings on this video????
afetqda (September 5, 2008 at 6:09 pm)
please listen to Gethsemane - Ian Gillan's version once more, Turn on the player volume for the max. I've listened to his version for 100000 times and I always cry, Gillan sings it so emotionally, he stated the way Gethsemane MUST be sang... and all other singers just try to repeat what Gillan did in 1970.Ian Gillan has THE BEST ROCK VOICE and ONE OF THE GREATEST OPERA-VOICE in the world music history. This is NOT my opinion, BUT the facts.Surely, he isn't Jesus, HE IS GOD!

Totally agree. Saw this on Broadway . . . seen this more times than I can count and no one like him. And the others were awesome. Saw Ted Neely. Fantstic as Hell but not Ian. |
