You have that right. It was delayed to December 2009, with full implementation by 2012. By then, when you go in to renew your driver's license you'll probably be issued National/Real ID instead.

good thing is I got my passport before the chips were used.. I also expressed my concern towards the people in my own cityhall. That those RFID chips can be scanned almost anywhere.. People can keep track of where you go.. Shops can see who came into their stores. I didn't see them using this yet.. But I would not be surprised if such kind of monotering system will become active.. time will tell..

they already imbedded those chips in our passports here in Holland.. And guess what.. We need to carry our identification card everywhere we go.. As we are now obligated to show our identification at ANY given time. They are just starting to arm the police with tazers here... it's not only in the US... :(

k first off for the people that dont know this im just trying to tell you, you can believe it or not but its the truth...real id will lead up to the micro chip wich is in revalations of the bible wich will be the end of the world and yes george bush father did plan 9/11 to strip away all of our rights.....so all there is to say is that the end is near so be prepared.

Welcome to the world of Real ID, a world of progressive dehumanisation and entrophy. Sucha world will continue to slide unless we reach critical mass on this issue, Whe 5% of a population rises up, the Real ID threat will be abated. If not abated, the next stage is imbedded RFID tracker chips. That when the Real fun will begin!

The video says that the National ID card is coming in May 2008. And it did in some states! However, it has been pushed back to December 2009 for most states. Please pass this info on so people don't blow it off as incorrect!
