As a matter of fact, nobody knows who wrote it. Whiskey in the Jar is a very old Irish song - posssibly 200-300 years old. It was always sung in the traditional way that The Dubliners sing it. In the 1970s, Thin Lizzy recorded this first ever rock version of it. Therefore, any other rock version you've heard is a copy of this Thin Lizzy arrangement.

hey, we all know who has written this and metallica does a great job BUT THIS VERSION IS THE BEST. Thin Lizzy is WHISKEY IN THE JAR and no one else
