LOL Yes, now that I think about it, she sounds like many foreign nouveau riche that live in central London. I was talking to an Indian secretary in Mayfair that is was trying to pull off this really quite extraordinary accent.

I haven't thought it fully through. It is more of a comment that several "nations" are wanting to make their own way. What has become an immediate problem is the growing divide in rules laws etc , such as free prescriptions, university places and such like. It is inevitable this will cause friction as "why should the English tax payer pay for free health care in Scotland ". It is a fair comment. Also as you indicate why no purely English Parliament for the English only.

So you are opposed to devolution then? The argument comes down to identity, perceived identity at that, whether you are English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, British, European or World Citizen. People conceive a 'national identity' under which they like to rally around, when language and, to a lesser degree, religion are the only real differences between people. I personally prefer a world government, but with devolution there is a deficiency of having no specifically 'English' Parliament.

Not just in Russia my friend look at the UK it is gradually fragmenting with Scotland and Wales seeking greater autonomy. All this whilst we are suppost to be becoming part of an EU superstate. Joining the Euro has been on the cards for 20 years. To my mind it should have been one of the first things. There needs to be a referendum on our EU membership.

I agree with your stipulation that the number of nation states has increased since 1990. Obviously this was largely due to the breakup of former Communist states e.g. USSR, Yugoslavia. My argument about the nation state was on the basis of the current phase of globalisation, whereby human rights are meant to be universal but fundamentally you still only have the 'protection' of your nation(s) of citizenship. As for the UK + the Euro, it is only a matter of time before it joins.

Just remember that all politicians are only in power when they are aligned with and support the media's agenda. When that evaporates...so do they! Margaret Thatcher lost her marbles after she lost their support. She believed her own press 'the iron lady'. Sad really! Anyway, thanks for posting this. When you compare this to Camerons attempts you can see what a crass imbecile he is. Tony Benn was so right too, wasnt he? Thatcher was so obviously lying when talking about e&m union at end of this.

So we have all different rules and tariffs on goods across Europe. Doesn't sound very joined up to me.I really don't know where you get these ideas from. There has been more division and setting up of new states since 1990. There is also plenty of trade with countries which control there own laws etc. |
