Yeah, back in the 80's most of the good Rock bands had a little flirtation with pop. But Genesis really took their affair with it, to another level. They totally forgot the commimtment they had with greatness.

The excellent prog-band Kansas did this as well, as soon as vocalist Steve Walsh left the group in 1980(?). Remember the lame pop-tune "Play the Game Tonight"? I heard it once and wanted to hang myself. However, Kansas basically fizzled out in the 80's while Genesis became a household brand-name.

What other band has done anything similar to this. This could only be compared to what M. Fleetwood did with the Macs, you know from been a blues band (a good one btw) to that comercial machine of the late 70s and early 80s. Shamefull.

Yeah, I'm always appreciative that this music was created, and I am still able to experience it's majesty. Their 80's stuff was constantly a let down. Some of "Duke" was appealing to a degree. When I think of songs like "Invilsible Touch", it almost makes me believe that satan actually exists. But I shall always love/hate Genesis.

I've written a song that is conspicuously early Genesis in style it is called "Stark", it has all the usual early Genesis trademarks of 12 string guitar, organ etc.. and the solo is Hackettesque in style, if you have any time please give it a listen and a review! Thanks!! Oh, by the way this is fantastic!
