take out your pencil and paper kids, this is what we like to call a trumpet player.

Rafael is a virtuoso through and through , his sound is unique partly due to the trumpet he plays on. He is pictured here playing on a OLDs Mendez model trumpet, the old Olds trumpets have a sound of their own, quite different from most modern horns, they have a centered huge centered sound to them. at the time of this recording eb's trumpet were not in vogue because of spotty intonation. this recording does not do him or his trumpet justice. I am a semi pro player having studied extensively

I actually beat out the senior that had been a first since his freshman year. there wasn't one senior in the first trumpets, and I was the only guy.

Great clarity in the fast playing. It's a pity the recording quality doesn't do him justice.

You never know what might happen next year, take me for example, I was third to last chair freshman year in high school, and the next year I was third chair overall, earning me a first part in the wind ensemble (the good band).

You will get better! Keep practicing and you will get better. I don't even play the trumpet, but I just practice scales when I'm bored. you should try that. |
