That's actually quite difficult to prove since the Illiad is a myth, and you can't really be sure the battle took place the way it says it did. The mycenians did conquer lots of cities at the time though, and probably sacked Troy as well, though the battle may or may not have been like we imagine

Sorry to start a bit more quarreling, but I read somewhere that the Greeks were just incredibly lucky, and there was an earthquake which knocked down some of Troy's defensive structures, thus diminishing the cities defensability.
