i like some jazz too but when it comes to expression i have to say in my opinion blues has alot more soul. but all of that is personal opinion so you can argue for days about which one is more expressive.

its easier certainly to express oneself when all you got underneath you is a 12 bar form or a couple bar chords that repeat. its much more challenging to play your way through and hear harmonic changes with upper structure triads attatched, that is 7th chords with more implied passing tones than your average song changes. its easier to hear the mistakes in jazz since you're adding more harmony, (and subsequently more overtones) to the music. one asks you to run through a maze, the other a meadow |
