Could be right. Wikipedia says he also invented some spy equipement for KGB, but I don t know, if he also used it, if he was a spy on his own...

Theremin is one of 1st electronic instruments, invented long before synthesizers and keyboards. I would say it s in the same line like e.g. the Trautonium.
