The stories I keep hearing is just that there was boogs from all across bay.but some of the basics are fresno orientated. Not saying it started in fresno, but fresno is HEAVILY involved.

Also, for a lot of OGs, Poppin and Boogaloo are different styles of the same dance. Every move under those two umbrella terms is the same: Tickin, tuttn, strobing, etc.

I always see the same names reppn this convo. Sam and EBs are legends who desrve respct but Boogn' startd in the Bay. Not Fresno, not L.A.There are photos from the late 60s of Bay Area boogaloos like th Black Messangers, etc. As Silky says, actual footage from '71.

Tell us about the West Coast Relays where cats from Fresno and The Bay used to get together. I believe that, the West Coast Relays is where Sam picked up his Boogaloo style. I was also told by a couple of OGs that there were cats from the Bay that lived in Cali that were doing Boogaloo and Struttin before 1979 when popping hit LA.

Bay History goes further back to late 1960's but more officially footage beginning 1971 from groups like Demons of the Mind as evidence. Noticeably look at the skill level of them then look at the skill level of the EB's in their earlier years- BIG comparison. The bay area represented way harder then b/c that's where it came from in general.I can't put in links so add this @ end:watch?v=myD4M watch?v=DuYqpWVAiz4peace

Sam gets a lot of credit for many things haha, and though I won't praise him for being a creator of sort, the EB's do have a lot of influence and representation of the popping and boogaloo scene b/c of the predecessors afterwards. However as Poppin Pete says, 1975 was when Sam started it..but to Bay history, through Pop Tart, DocLock, Harry Berry, Demons of the Mind, etc.- they say it further back

Boogaloo came from the Bay Area, mainly Oakland Californiaif you read on it as it is literally word of mouth- Boogaloo Sam gets credit for Fresno Boogaloo- that's it.Popping was a movement- no one man created it |
