Probaly the best live show i've ever seen them do... I mean this footage is amazing and quite possibley some of the best live directing I've ever seen.

You have a point there. But I've seen this same happening with quite many of my favorites, like David Bowie, Kate Bush and even Depeche Mode, that it sort of mellows down too much. Especially when it comes to more high energetic pop and rock. I guess I never matured along my favorites, still missing that completely wacky tone of Brett's singing...

New Morning had some great songs, its all part of the life process. The early works had a kind of raw frenetic energy but the later ones have a more reflective one. All good though :)

When I first saw the video for "love & poison". I was intoxicated with the miraculous guitar performance by Butler. I mean surely 75% of the sound is Butler. I was also stunned by Brett and his rather provocative delivery. This footage was absolutely flawless for such a young act.

SPECIAL. Could there be any other word better to describe it all...

I know what you mean! I remember when I first heard his voice in Suede's first album and then in Dog Man Star, and I was really amazed! His voice was really something special, very strong and virtuous! I understand your disappointment because I felt the same! Even when I heard "The Tears", I didn't want to believe that that was Brett and Bernard playing and singing... they weren't astonishing anymore! Sad!

He once said that he deliberately sang in a "shitty" way in the "New Morning". Do not know why. And it was a real disappointment to me. He just wasn't flying anymore... However, there's still the sensitivity left, like in the Youtube clips.

I agree with you! I was a big fan of Suede until Head Music, but then, unfortunately, his voice lost something! Brett cannot fight against evidences, he hasn't got that powerfull voice from the past anymore! It's sad, but it's true. he's still a good musician though!

He said in one of his interviews that he thinks he sings now better than before... Difficult to get that one. It seems as if they "flattened" his voice somehow in his solo album and the Tears album, cutting off some frequencies. He sounds still good live. |
