Watching a couple of videos of this and I see something other than poor judgementon the part of the A36 pilot. The P51 is slowing faster, having main gear on the ground, but A36 appears to hit hard and bounce. Then he appears to get caught by the vortex of the lead plane wingtip, and this is what throws him into a roll. And to apply full power to recover would snap him into a torque stall and still end up upside down sliding along the runway.

Wow, not too many of these warbirds left. Very sad to see 2 go out in one day after surviving over 60 years. Mucho respect to the guys who restore and fly them.

No appreciation for aviation? My father was an aerial photogapher in USAAF. Few in A-26s. I know every WWII type there is. I love them and want to see them fly forever, but sanely. I've personally seen ridiculous stuff pulled at airshows. People have stopped thinking rationally these days.

Well if there weren't any of these events then how would we be able to fully appreciate the history of aviation? Personally I believe that if you have the previlegde of owning one of these beautiful planes you should fly it as much as possible. I'm sure the gentlemen who owned this one had that type of passion for the spirit of aviation, something you have no appreciation for. Kamikaze!? WTF! Nobody in their right mind wants to celebrate that part of history.

You just won my argument. A mock air race? For what purpose? Do you realize how many of these aircraft have been lost due to stupid mock air battles, aerobatics etc. The record is dismall. What's next mock kamikaze attacks?
