Well this was very informative and all, but I actually wanted to "Learn how to sign eat, water, milk, banana, apple, and cookie in this free video clip about basic sign language." I how I don't have to go hunting through every video to find what I need, because the video descriptions are inaccurate.

Yeah...I agree. With SOAP it's almost like you're scraping off a top layer of the soap with your bent fingers (that's how I always remember it, anyway, lol) I'm learning sign, and she does a lot of things oddly. Like in a sign she does for 'green' in a different video, she makes it look like you shake a 'd' hand shape back and forth, instead of doing a 'g' handshape. It's weird.

If you mis-pronounce a word in English, one does not say, "Oh, that's okay, I get the context of it." No, we should be correcting it, to keep the integrity of the language. If I said, "forfeet" instead of "forfeit" that would be an incorrect production of that word. Therefore, if you sign SOAP perpendicular from the wrist, it is an incorrect production of the sign.

dude there are tons of diff ways to saign it - you know all signs are sorta "lost is translation" so as long as you get the "context" of what it means ;}

The sign SOAP is actually done not toward the body/perpendicular from the wrist, but toward the wrist and the body. This requires you to turn your hand to point the fingers outward. Also, the fingers do not remain stagnate, but instead bend slightly, almost like you are wiping something off your fingertips to the palm of your hand.

Actually, they are the same sign. However, it is important to distinguish something. The noun CLEAN is as demonstrated. However, the verb to-CLEAN is done the same way but repeated several times. Hope this helps!

Your "clean" sign looks like the "nice" sign.

Is it like an "F" sign tapping on the chin? It means "soon."
