I am not sure it was Hitchcock who decided whom to cast, suppose that was Selznick's decision.

Yah, she would have done a beautiful job acting, but especially after GONE WITH THE WIND, people would have a very hard time seeing the same woman who was scarlet o' Hara acting so scared and helpless. But her fame would have brought more people to see the movie i guess, it must have been hard for hitchcock to turn her away.

That is exactly why she was not chosen, the part called for a mousy woman, not unattractive, but one who would be believable as second fiddle and in the shadow of the formidable Rebecca, to the point where she is not even given a name.

Sure its famous, but for some reason it is still rather difficult to find, which I do not understand. I personally could not find it on Netflix or at my library (which has a great movie selection) or at the movie rental store, so I am extremely glad to have found it here! |
