She made a really bad choice to cut away a normal malfunction (that can be solved) on the main. Then, she probably didn't have a proper body position and deployed the reserve while unstable. If you can't fix an unstowed brake malfunction and can't deploy on a stable arch, quit skydving, lady. You'll be doing us people taking the sport seriously a great favour.

Oh COME ON! she's on tv because of an unstowed brake?? Granted it can scare you shitless in a small canopy, but the solution is: *drumroll* unstow the other brake. This is why skydving gets a bad reputation. She's probably a clueless person outside skydiving, which makes her a danger for herself and others in the skydiving world. Now, a comment for skydiver on youtube: Did you see the cutaway sequence in the video? now THAT scared me. The right 3 rings wouldn't come off =X PROPER MAINTENANCE!

Did she survive?
MgpMontville (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Unstrapped??? Truth is maybe she could have been ok with the main but she made the decision early to cutaway the main. Unfortunately the reserve looked like it had a line over malfunction, and the only way to clear that is by the use of a hook knife, which students are not usually given. Also the fact she hit concrete with all that grass around......Just glad she is around, and has nothing to be ashamed about. A reserve malfunction is pretty rare also... |
