the point was life is different for everyone, and we all learn differently. We don't all have the same lessons. The point of the best friend ditching was that it was irony, and he was learning his own way. The point of the film to teach the VIEWER not the characters.

"Life is not fair." Garth could have learn that lesson in the book, but he experienced it, and that is what made the diffence. Life is learned at a different pace for different people. But we all learn the lessons of life in the end.

Brilliant. Not only an interesting and poignant message, but I forgot I was watching a film. Not easy to do for me as I tend to psychoanalyze a film's techniques when it doesn't grab me.Well Done.

I didnt find any great insight in the film. Whats more, the characters were two dimensional and unnecessarily illogical. Why would a school teacher tell her class that this was the most important lesson and not do everything she could to deliver that lesson (like making extra copies of the pamphlet)? Who cares that the best friend ditched class that day? Even if he had showed up, the teacher wouldnt have been adequately prepared and two students would have been disappointed. Big whoop.
