i love this song! but one thing i dont get is how these people think they sound black?? like u can clearly tell he's white just cuz its blues doesnt mean there black lol like just look at zeppelin they have blues songs but they're not black lmfao THE ANIMALS ROCK !!!!

I know! Weird isn't it? I did some research on Google yesterday & Wikipedia. It's an American folk/blues song, maybe from the 20's or 30's possibly older than that. They really don't know who the original writer is. Possibly a woman singing about a brothel in New Orleans. Could also be a black man singing about a gambling hall called 'House of the Rising Sun' in New Orleans. Anyway, you slice it, it's a very sad song penned by a someone poor & uneducated who Wasn't going to get the credit~

It's a great song, with a good gravel voice...You need to bear in mind that back in those days, UK TV did not allow live performances on some shows (Top of the Pops, for example). Hence the signs of dubbing when you watch an old video.
