http://www.hittinthenote.com/c... amazing video is now presented in sync! Dickey Betts & Great Southern perform the Allman Brothers incredible tune "Back Where It All Begins" during his triumphant return to New York City's Beacon Theatre on 7/26/2006. This was Dickey's first performance in the Fillmore-like venue since the March Madness 2000, his last stint as a member of the Allman Brothers Band.Let me put it bluntly: "Back Where It All Begins" is the best original song recorded in the 1990's...period. With a sound that is a cross between Idlewild South's "Revival" and "Ramblin' Man" from Brothers And Sisters, this is the title track from an incredible album called "Where It All Begins" (beautiful album cover art on this disc!), an album that has yielded several Allman Brothers Band live performance staples, some of them sounding as though they came from the debut album or Idlewild South, rather than from an album in the 1990's. Other concert favorites that have emerged from this under-recognized album include Sailin' 'Cross The Devil's Sea, No One To Run With (a real crowd-pleaser), and Soulshine, which has evolved into an epic live performance number. http://www.hittinthenote.com/c...

Whatever the issues are, and I can't claim to know because I don't have any inside information and won't speculate, but I really miss Dickey with the ABB. I can honestly say that I don't think they're missing his playing THAT much because Warren and Derek are great, but Dickey not being there just doesn't seem right and never will. I definitely miss his vocals and stage presence (along with his playing). He just needs to be part of the family again. And no...Garcia is not better than Betts.

the only guy better than Betts is Garcia

I saw dickey play along with the marshall tucker band and charlie daniels a couple years back and even though he was the 'opener' for the other 2 bands, he showed them all up hands down. Amazing guitarist, The Allman's were never the same without him, how could they be? This song proves it.

AMEN! Dickey is more of a Brother than Gregg will ever be. If Duane were alive, Gregg would be solo act. He (Duane) would not have put up with all the BS that Dickey endured for years. Duane & Dickey would still be playing together as the ABB. Duane would not have let Gregg get away with all the crap he has pulled through the years. Dickey really gained my respect when he refused to even ride on the same bus as the ass-hole narc/rat Gregg. Long live the Ramblin' Man, "Genuine Since 69" !

excellent points guys...Dickey is the only Allman brother that can still play even though that doosh Gregg is still out there.

Well said. Dickie Betts held the band up, while Gregg was mired in heroin. Their sound today surely misses the CLASS of Dickie Betts!! Warren is GREAT, Derek is a great slide player, but both of them together, can't replace ONE Dickie Betts!! Gregg has BIG balls for 'firing' Dickie, after all the shit Greggs been thru!! Go back to 70-71.... Dickie was there!! He was with Duane, and complimented the band, very well. Dickie Betts is a TRUE Allman Brother, and he should be in the band, today!

Dickey is the Allman Brothers. There has been moone playing with the Allman Brothers since Dickey was "fired" by Gregg for drinking. What a joke. Gregg drank between drinks. Its like Keith Richards firing Brian Jones for drinking or Slash firing whats his name for drinking. Com'on people. The Allmans crashed without Dickey.
