It's not flipped - the camera is shooting at the mirror in a barbershop, and he's in a chair facing the mirror so therefore looks inverted/left-handed.

Everyone gets inspiration somewhere. Nick Drake had to have got his from somewhere, he certainly wasn't the first guy singing with a guitar.
