Beautiful in every way. Can anyone explain the unfortunate edit that cut measures 16-27?

Without doubt one of the very greatest pianists the 20th century produced.

Beautiful natural warm feeling for this piece. One of the natural great Romantic style players. Thanx for posting this. By the way, what happened to the second statement of the theme? Did he decide to cut it for reasons of longth?Would have been great to hear his rich touch on the bass!

Dear Cd,As mysterious as this quality is of which you speak,we would find it more often in artists today,if the conservatory culture which creates rules to prevent this kind of expression in music were not embraced by the culture for the last 100+ years.A quick survey of recordings of all instruments from 100 years ago, shows that it was much less 'uncommon'...then.

This is the greatest performance of this piece that I have heard. Van Cliburn in his early years played in a way similar to Horowitz, and the masters of the early part of the 20th century. I heard him play live in 1994 and he had lost a lot of his technical mastery, but this special character still remained and I was so happy to hear him. I never got to hear Van Cliburn play in his prime as I was born way after that. We need people to play this way today, and it is very hard to find.

Oh just listen, or don't. Why all this crap. No one cares who likes it or doesn't. It's not like we know each other. Enjoy or hate, but shut up with the personal stuff.
