As I said, according to the offical Marine Website it is a 12 Week Basic Course, I am not saying that after the 12 weeks they go straight to combat, because few modern armies are that stupid. ~Thanato

I was army and I'm almodt back then (late 90s) it was 16 weeks. Might have changed, but they still have MOS training too.

What I meant was that the AK is not gas operated in the same way. The firing mechanisms are completely different this is what gives the AK it's durability, but also it's inaccuracy and kickback. The more modern versions of the AK have reduced the heavy sliding action and thus reduced the kickback. I don't pretend to be an expert I am going by an American discovery episode right here on youtube. Don't take my word for it go look it up for yourself.

the Ak47 is a Gas Operated Rotating bolt weapon. All modern service weapons in Militaries, unless bolt action, are Gas Operated. You need to use the Gas to cycle the bolt and load the next round.~Thanato

There are alot of weapons based on the AK47, most modern weapons are based on the M16 Series, or the Ak47 Series, Bullpups excluded.~Thanato
