Yes push hands is just a drill. Rather than stress over which art is the 'best' we should focus on one suitable for us and be best in it. In the end its the person and less the art.

This is stuff Walter Sigman thinks is martially effective. But this is just one student against their teacher in a many-rules, agreed upon setting, which shows very little.

I think that one thing to take into account is that tui shou is a practice tool and fa jin the safe way to express energy with a partner, these are not the same as how it would look like in combat. instead of dropping them to the ground, think about slamming their head into it, and perhaps breaking the arm/neck/back/leg or what have you. As far as BJJ I wonder how bites and eye gouges would influence a submission;) |
