Well lightsabers don't melt through everything, if you haven't noticed from the movies. secondly, the purple guy did that spin to make the red guy flintch. Flintching in a fight can mean death.

Its an awesome film, I'll say that much, but did anyone notice that the red guy stuck the blade of his saber into the ground and it stayed in the air. I don't think lightsabers are supposed to work like that. Also, there was a few things that I think were just added in to make it look more cool. For one, when the purple dude spun one of his sabers around the other. I mean, I don't think there was a practical meaning to doing that.

This fight very closely matches that of Darth Bane and the weapons master in Path to Destruction.
