Robert Johnson's version was actually recorded in the late 1920's , not the '40's on a reel to reel tape recorder in a hotel room. That explains the poor sound quality on the original version of the original recording. For his time Johnson was an amazing blues guitarist. He could play rhythm on the bass strings and lead on the treble strings at the same time, which is terribly difficult as any great guitar player can tell you!

well to be fair that is of much more meaning that Blues standards covers with epic solo's

well, i suppose that was a supergroup too(now that i realize it, omg), but Cream was the the first band to earn the title, as the phrase was coined back when THEY were at their prime.

I'm so compassionate and so beautiful why can't I find a large man like all my friends?

I can't argue about who's better, but you're forgetting Clapton's first band, The Yardbirds which he was in with Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. That was more of a super group than Cream. |
