The lady clearly knew what she was doing with her mare, I've done foalings before and a little help is needed for the mare sometimes. . The mare was struggling so a little help does nobody any harm, congrats on the little one, what a beauty. the tail plait is used to keep her tail out the way. and i didn't think the tail plait was that bad either lol

they are best left to foal unassisted if at all possible, after all nature makes most mares more than capable of giving birth to their babies without human intervention, whilst being monitored to be sure all is well, the only reason she needed assistance this time, (she is an experienced broodmare) is that the foal was slightly shoulder locked which was easily,,,and not at all roughly, put to rights, she then gave birth to a very healthy foal and both she nad her baby are fine!!!...

We have been breeding horses, ponies and donkeys for well over 30 years and are well versed in delivering foals!!!!..we have at least 10 foals every year and have saved plenty of foals lives that would otherwise have perished if the mare had foaled alone!!!..

i heard of some inexperienced person who helped. they killed the foal.. its best not to help unless nessasary like bear12dex said :)
