62 Vertical Yacht Clubs, Cool Catamarans, Boat Winterization
http://www.TheBoaters.TV EP 62 -- First up today - Introducing Vertical Yacht Clubs...Aqua Marine Partners and Vertical Yacht Club Development are building the first indoor, vertical dry storage facilities. Unlike traditional forklift based operations, the Vertical Yacht Storage System allows for storage of all makes and models of boats -- from an 18' open fisherman to an 80' express cruiser weighing up to 90 tons. The company's prototype marina is in Aventura's Thunder Alley (expected to open in 2008), and they are now planning vertical yacht clubs in Panama City and at Fort Lauderdale's Marina Mile. The Vertical Yacht Club Marina Mile will hold 46 yachts up to 85 feet and weighing up to 90 tons. For more information, please visit http://www.VerticalYachts.com Next up: A Unique Breed of Cutting-Edged Catamarans from emerging yacht designer Franco Gianni of Studio Franco Gianni Designed in collaboration with Custom Yachts International of Fort Lauderdale, Franco Gianni's futuristic catamaran designs will no doubt appeal to the ultimate modern yachtsman. We caught up with Franco Gianni at the recent Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and he talked a bit about his designs. The Flagship SC-117 twin-hull design comes in at 117 feet with a 30-foot beam and allows for a 20% larger cargo level than similarly sized mono-hull yachts. The SC-117 is a very social cat, offering 13 variations of seating arrangements from bow to stern. A 10 X 8 foot hot tub/pool has been blended into the streamline design and is concealed by a sun pad when not in use. Avid divers will also enjoy the full service dive station onboard this progressive yacht. For more information, please visit http://www.StudioFrancoGianni.... And finally today: Six Boat Lay-Up SCREW-UPS You'll Want to Avoid... Boating writer Janet Groene has sent us some more good boat winterization tips, which in this case, are actually tips on what you'll want to avoid: #6 Are you thinking about wingin' it with regard to lay-up preparations?#5 Are you thinking about leaving your fuel tanks empty over the winter?#4 Have you given attention to water traps such as the sea strainer, low points in drinking water plumbing, and the baitwell?#3 What about debris collecting in limber holes? (And what are limber holes?)#2 Did you remove all batteries from items on your boat?#1 Here's a hint: Biminis and cockpit enclosures won't protect your boat from Old Man Winter.TheBoaters.TV, hosted by Julie Perry, airs 5-7 minute episodes every M, W, & F at http://www.TheBoaters.tv - also on iTunes. Too bad the reporter is half lame! Go back and watch her varience in weights and crap. Sorry it just ticks me off when people talk and give advice on things they can't back up. It leaves a lot of room for error. Sorry I am just a little moody today. Please forgive me!!!
