Excellent observations and memory, animblana, all of which I agree with. And I have to add that the popularity, or lack thereof, of any of the music in routines is irrelevant to me, what is relevant is how well the music enhances the routine, or the reverse. Ravel's is not the heart of this superb routine, it's T&D's hearts & skill that made their routine so haunting and timeless. The memory of seeing them do this the first time will always stay with me, while G&P's is already forgotten to me.

Unfair? The T&D Bolero was for 1984' standards a revolutionary routine, a revelation. T&D have changed the concept about ice dancing like art and sport in the same time. The G@P routine was for 1998' standards just a good routine and not even so original becouse it has elements inspired by Dean choreography like 2:47 from Song of India and 2:58 from Bolero and many anothers if you look attentively. T&D are a source of inspiration for their successors not ... The Bolero routine is transcedental.

I think there have been more excelent routines like these, for example Grishuk and Platov in 1998 in Nagano, the only difference is that G&P didn't use a known song, but their routine is amazing too and they didn't receive the same scores, it's unfair

this is amazing, breath taking spine tingling all them words, but the thinkg that makes me laugh is the person at the beginning "there names were jayne torvill and christpher dean" what have they changed their names since? lol they might have not changed their names but they have changed the face of ice dance for ever |
