I see what Shirley Jackson wanted to do with the story, but in the end it was total bullcrap! Hands down the worst short story I've read ever.

macampos63, At my job I ask people all the time..."Why do we do this?" or "Wouldn't be easier if we did it this way?"... to my dismay they usually respond with "We've always done it like this." (no reason behind it) They will not change even if it were to BETTER themselves. That is the point behind the whole story. I can really relate to this.
