The Mikoyan MiG-29 (Russian: МиГ-29) (NATO reporting name "Fulcrum") is a fighter aircraft designed for the air superiority role in the Soviet Union. Developed in the 1970s by the Mikoyan design bureau, it entered service in 1983 and remains in use by the Russian Air Force as well as in many other nations.Because it was developed from the same basic parameters laid out by TsAGI for the original PFI, the MiG-29 is aerodynamically broadly similar to the Sukhoi Su-27, but with some notable differences. It is built largely out of aluminum with some composite materials. It has a mid-mounted swept wing with blended leading-edge root extensions (LERXs) swept at around 40°. There are swept tailplanes and two vertical fins, mounted on booms outboard of the engines. Automatic slats are mounted on the leading edges of the wings; they are four-segment on early models and five-segment on some later variants. On the trailing edge, there are maneuvering flaps and wingtip ailerons. The MiG-29 has hydraulic controls and a SAU-451 three-axis autopilot but, unlike the Su-27, does not have a fly-by-wire control system. Nonetheless, it is very agile, with excellent instantaneous and sustained turn performance, high alpha capability, and a general resistance to spins. The airframe is stressed for 9-g (88 m/s²) maneuvers. The controls have "soft" limiters to prevent the pilot from exceeding the g and alpha limits, but these can be disabled manually. In joint USAF-Luftwaffe exercises, the downgraded MiG-29 9-12A that the Luftwaffe fielded defeated the F-16 Fighting Falcon in close-range combat almost every time using its highly practical infra-red search and track (IRST) sensor and helmet-mounted sight, together with the Vympel R-73 (NATO reporting name AA-11 'Archer') missile. The MiG-29 has two widely spaced Klimov RD-33 turbofan engines

that too but the main thing was that it is a eu project where each country wants to make as much money out of it as posibble ....besides when did the eu do anything cheap and logical

Development/Production is far more expensive in Europe.

well i think we can bouth agree on the fact that eurofighter is overpriced

Actually I just had a look at the Su-35 price and I though it was around the same as the Su-30MK, guess I was wrong, turns out it isn't as good value, probably a Su-30MKX then is better.

and i think that the french rafaelle is pretty hot too

sory i thought you mean something else...my badbesides if you do not like the su 35 you couls always invest a bit in to the mig 1.44 project not to mention that the mig 35 is not that bad either.

Su-27 family has an RCS well over 10m2.Eurofighter was specially designed to have ~0.1m2.With use of RAM the RuAF reduced the RCS of a MiG-21 by 50%, so technically (with additional cost) this could be done for any plane in the RuAF inventory.

iam sure the rcs will be lover that those of eurofighter. not tu mention that i bet su-35 is more agile and like all rusian planes it can land on a dirt srip(often overlooked fact)and does not need tarmac like all western planes

Agreed, the Su-35 is a cheap alternative, good radar, R-77's with up coming R-77M1, although quite high RCS, still good for cheapness.

what about rafaele? grippen? su 35? i agree f22 is the best at the moment but eurofighter is just like anny other eu project overblown and ovepriced. for the money it cost there are other efective planes available
