Forbidden Colours - is a Japanese term for homosexuality, it's also the title of Yukio Mishima's famous ( in Japan )novel about the homosexual awakening of a beautiful youth ( a fact Sakamoto, and I am pretty sure, Sylvain could not have been unaware of ) It's not the subtext, as much as the main theme.
