Gavrillo - Just google the article of two days ago "The Three 'Bedrock' Ideas Behind Warren Buffett's Billions", where Buffett reiterates exactly what I said 2 weeks ago.Because of these principles, I now annually earn more from my stock DIVIDENDS, than most people do from their day jobs.And I sleep sweetly at night. Market fluctuations, credit squeezes, gas prices, housing collapses . . . who cares? You've got to choose the right heroes.Thankyou, Uncle Warren. Thankyou, Uncle Charlie.

Gavrillo - While it's helpful to understand the market, Buffett says you only need to know three things about it: Buying shares is buying part-ownership of a business; Market quotes are there to serve you, not the other way around; and 'Margin of Safety' - make sure the price you pay is way below your assessed value of the underlying business. Don't worry about the Dow , or daily quotes, or even the economy. Just look at it as though you were buying the whole business i.e forget the market.

Warren Buffett - surely the wisest, most rational, most ethical, most honourable, most brilliant, most principled, most down-to-earth businessman ever to walk the earth. Parents - don't send your kids to business school. Send them, instead, the complete Berkshire "Letters to Shareholders". And as an encore to furthering their understanding of how people tick and how the world fits together, it's hard to go past the wit and wisdom of (his partner) Charlie Munger's "Almanack". It's all there.

I really like this man. Media has got the charity all wrong though. He gives 5% (or so) each year for many consecutive years. Since he his normal capital gain is around 7-14% per year he is donating part of the profit for many years. This will nominally be a huge number but seen in real value today much less than mentioned 85% of his total fortune.
