Indeed, this whole song is based on an article that Mary Schmich wrote. She wanted to write a speach she would give if she went back in time and was asked to give a high school grad speach. Baz wrote her and got permission to use it. See the wiki for this song. Wear Sunscreen or the Sunscreen Speech are the common names of an essay actually called "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" written by Mary Schmich and published in the Chicago Tribune as a column in 1997.
